Summary of Direct Care Staff Positions
 
 
Night Supervisor
 
Under the direct supervision of a Support Coordinator, the Night Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of people with developmental disabilities during the over night hours. As part of the Lifestyle Support staff team, the incumbent works primarily alone. Direct involvement with the people supported primarily occurs in the morning, with the incumbent providing assistance as required in facilitating completion of each person's specific routine.
 
 
Counsellor I
 
Under the direct supervision of the Manager/Support Coordinator, the Counsellor I works as part of an Association wide habilitative team. Working in a front line capacity, the employee provides support to people with developmental disabilities. The employee implements activities and tasks identified in the Life Plan process and is responsible for specific duties related to maintaining the health and safety of the people receiving support.
 
Within Community Connections:
The focus of the job includes providing non-traditional career support through recreational, educational, social and voluntary activities which promote active participation in community life.
 
Within Business Ventures:
The focus of the job includes coaching/assisting self-employed people who operate a store or work in one of the small business options that exist (café/catering services, janitorial, composting or carwash services.)
 
Within Job Links:
The focus of the job includes providing on the job training and support for people who hold jobs with employers in the area.
 
Within Lifestyle Support:
The focus of the job includes providing support for people in their own homes in the community.
 
 
Counsellor II
 
Under the direct supervision of the Manager/Support Coordinator, the employee works as part of an Association wide habilitative team. Working in a front line capacity, the employee coordinates the overall support and service related activities on behalf of an assigned group of people with developmental disabilities. The employee develops and monitors the Life Plan process and is responsible for all duties related to maintaining the health and safety of the people in receipt of support.
 
Within Community Connections:
The focus of the job includes planning and implementing non-traditional career support services, which assist people in pursuing specific career interests. These interests could be recreational, educational and/or social in nature and are promoted through active participation in the local community.
 
Within Business Ventures:
The focus of the job includes coaching individuals who are in the capacity of "self employed contractors" in various interest driven small business options such as a storefront operation (Business Support Services); Cafe and Catering Service; Car Wash Service, Composting Outlet and Janitorial Service.
 
Within Job Links:
The focus of the job includes competitive job placement and job coaching.
 
Within Lifestyle Support:
The focus of the job includes providing support to people in their own homes in the community.
 
 
 
 
 
 

All Counsellor I and II Staff have the following qualifications:

 
Post Secondary Education in the Social services field:
 
  • DSW or equivalent two year diploma e.g. Social Service Diploma, Mental Retardation Counsellor, Early Childhood Education, Recreation Diploma.
 
OR
 
  • Degree with a major in psychology, sociology, child studies or B.Ed., B.S.W. or equivalency.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in the social service field
  • Experience in sign language and administering of medications an asset.
  • Valid Class "G" and "F" driver's licenses.
  • First Aid Certificate
  • The following certifications are not mandatory but desirable: CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
  • Fluent in the English language evidenced by reading, writing, and the ability to present information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with adults who have developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to manage stress in an effective manner.
